Mason-Dixon Meltdown is Shaping Up To Be a Very Big Show Top Super Late Model Racers To Be Complimented By Best in Legends, PASS & Rolling Thunder Mods, Bandos and More CONCORD, NC (November 8, 2007) – At various points in the year, scores of race teams come to Concord, North Carolina. Depending on the date and the track, those teams might compete in one of NASCAR’s big three divisions, on dirt with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car or Late Model tours or they could be asphalt short track racers. On November 16th-17th, the asphalt short track warriors will be the circus that is coming to town. They will be filling hotel rooms and heading up and down Highway 601 with their haulers. That is when the second annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will take place at Concord Motorsport Park – with teams hailing from as far away as Maine, Michigan and Texas to race Pro All Star Series (PASS) South Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Rolling Thunder Modifieds, Legends cars, Bandoleros, Allison Legacy cars and Thunder Roadsters. The two-day show will feature Friday night racing for Legends and Bandos on the quarter-mile Concord track and two days of actions featuring the high-horsepower divisions on the tricky, ultra-quick half mile tri-oval for all other divisions. “It’s going to be a big show with a lot of excitement around it,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “We’re getting pre-entries in from all over in every division. A number of PASS North teams are coming down for the race, along with the PASS South regulars. You’ll also be seeing some one-off entries like Freddie Query and Ryan Moore. John Van Doorn, who just won the All-American 400, will be there. When it comes to Super Late Model racing, I think that you’ll see the best guys on the East Coast competing in the Meltdown.” The support divisions for the race are nothing to sneeze at either. “The PASS and Rolling Thunder Modified combo race will probably draw 30 cars and the interest in the other divisions is great too. We’re going to have a pretty good deal when it comes to racing on the quarter mile on Friday night. There are entries from Texas, New Jersey and Maine that have already come in for the Legends races. We’re right in the backyard of Legends and Bandolero racing – even the cars themselves are built in Concord – so the excitement level with that race will be huge as well.” More information regarding the Mason-Dixon Meltdown, along with race procedures, will be announced soon. The Second-Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will take place Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, North Carolina. The event will be the season-finale for the PASS South Super Late Models and pay $12,500-to-win. The weekend will also feature events for PASS/Rolling Thunder Modifieds, Thunder Roadsters and Allison Legacy Series cars. INEX-sanctioned Legends and Bandoleros will run features Friday night as part of the Meltdown festivities on the quarter-mile track just behind the speedway. Action begins Friday at the half-mile with pit gates opening at 10:00 am and rotating practice starting at noon. Once action at the half-mile wraps up, focus will shift to the Legends and Bandoleros at the quarter-mile. Their pit gates open at 1:00 pm Friday with alternating practice starting at 3:00 pm and heat races beginning at 6:00 pm, followed by the features. On Saturday back at the half-mile, pit gates open at 9:00 am with practicing starting at 11:00 am. Time Trials begin at 2:15 pm with heat races beginning at 4:00 pm. The 2nd Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown is set to begin at approximately 7:45 pm. |

South To Use Hoosier Tires at Mason-Dixon Meltdown 2nd Annual Event Will Also Feature Live 2-Tire Pit Stops CONCORD, NC (November 1, 2007) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South officials announced today that Hoosier Tires will be the official tire of the 2nd Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown at Concord Motorsport Park. The series also announced that the 200-lap event will feature live pit stops and not a halfway break like the one used in last year’s inaugural event. PASS officials also wanted to impress upon it competitors that the switch from American Racer Tires, which have been used since the inception of PASS South, to Hoosier Tires will be only for this one event. “Hoosier makes a good tire and it will work well for the Meltdown,” said PASS South owner and promoter Tom Mayberry. “We did a couple of different tire tests at Concord with a number of different teams and we found some things that made us make the switch. This by no means is an indication that we are going to be going in a different direction with our tires. This is just the best solution for the Concord event and the best for the racers and the fans at this time.” More information about the Hoosier Tires that will be used in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown, please contact Jeff Freeman with Hoosier Tire South at 336-403-3275. In addition to the tire information, officials announced that there would not be a halfway break in this year’s Mason-Dixon Meltdown. Instead, the series will allow live pit stops. However, teams will only be allowed to change two (2) tires per stop. PASS South officials feel the two-tire change per stop rule will keep teams from gaining a huge advantage by hiring professional pit crews. More information regarding the Mason-Dixon Meltdown, along with race procedures, will be announced soon. The Second-Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown will take place Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, North Carolina. The event will be the season-finale for the PASS South Super Late Models and pay $12,500-to-win. Throughout the 2007 racing season at Besides bragging rights to win in front of a large crowd, Legends drivers will be racing for their lion’s share of big-money purses, including $1,000-to-win the Masters & Pro combined 50-lap feature and $600-to-win the Semi-Pro 50-lap feature. Awards will also be given out to the winners of the 25-lap Bandolero Bandits feature and the Bandolero Young Guns & Outlaws combined feature. Last year, Thomas Hartensveld won the Semi-Pro Legends portion of the Meltdown, while Casey Roderick won the Pro & Masters race. Hartensveld has since moved up to Late Model Stocks this season and will not be returning to defend his Meltdown title, but Roderick will. In 2006, Roderick gained momentum going into the Meltdown by winning the Legends Asphalt Nationals at Lanier National Speedway (GA) a few weeks prior to the event. This year, Roderick looks to do the same as he recently won the 2007 Asphalt Nationals at The Bullring At Las Vegas Motor Speedway (NV). “Winning last year’s Mason-Dixon Meltdown race was pretty awesome since I just won the Nationals a few weeks earlier,” said Roderick. “I was able to win this year’s Nationals this past weekend and I am looking to race the Meltdown and win again.” The pit gates open at 1:00 pm Friday with alternating practice running from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Heat races will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by Consi races and the features. Last year, the PASS South
Super Late Model Series started a new tradition surrounding big
season-ending events, hosting the Mason-Dixon Meltdown at South Boston
Speedway in South Boston, Virginia on Thanksgiving weekend. The race was a
huge success, with a ton of Super Late Models, Tour-Type Modifieds, Pro
Challenge cars and Legends Cars packing the pits and giving fans one of the
best big shows of the season.
Once again, the PASS South Super Late
Models will take center stage, with bragging rights and a huge check going
to the winner. Last season, a total of 48 Super Late Models tried to make
the 33-car starting field, with Maine’s Cassius Clark taking the top honors.
This year, things are expected to be even bigger. |
